I am so in the fall mood right now. The trees outside my door have beautiful leaves of all different colors at their feet. I've thought about making a bouquet of the flowers that are left outside but of course, I have no time! I love these flowers and the bits of dark red that peek through the bouquet.

My second painting of the beautiful and very deep gorge. This one is a little larger and a square, which give it a different feel. After Artfest, I am going to paint a much larger version - maybe 30x40, and see if I can get the depth perception in there a little more.

I had to add a descanso painting into the mix! I always pass the beautiful displays of crosses, flowers and momentos on the road, but I never have time to turn around and snap a photo. So I usually come up with my own memorials. I like this one with sunflowers.

I don't know how I overlooked #61 on my list but with this many paintings, it's definitely possible! This is a nice square (very zen feel) of a New Mexico mesa with an approaching storm. You can still see a tiny bit of sunlight at the top.

Ah, done at last. Man, this one was hard. The canvas was a rougher texture than what I'm used to. I had to paint it, line it, varnish it, line it again, and varnish it again. I just finished last night and thought I was going to go crazy. It is pretty though, and will be the centerpiece of my show. You may see some numbers out of order, that's just how they worked out in the end. So, if you're coming to the show looking for a particular painting, remember the number and I can easily find it for you.

Wow, I have cracked the 100 mark - I am having such fun now! I still have to work on my Weems donation, which is quite large. I also have quite a few larger pieces I want to paint in the next few weeks. I need to finish my 48x60 Taos Gorge, I have a couple of large sunsets, a wild flower painting, and who knows what else! Wow, I love this sunset. It's almost a keeper for me. Sometimes when you stop worrying about how something is supposed to look and just let the brush take over, this painting is what you end up with. I love the colors, the looseness, and I almost didn't put any lines in it. One of my favs.

I haven't painted many Canyon Women for the show yet, I think this is my second. I love this painting. I don't know what it is, these women are so simple, yet they stand for so much to me. Mothers, grandmothers, nurturing, teaching, leading. They are in the northern mountains of New Mexico and walking towards home at the end of a long day. No photographs here, just lots of love.

Some of you may recognize this painting, I painted it for Artfest last year and one of my daughters snapped it up. Actually she snapped up two of them. She just redid her room and they found their way back into my studio, so here they are. It's like revisiting an old friend! I think this painting was taken from two photos; one from the mariachis at the fairgrounds, and the dancers from another location.

Another painting you have to see in person. My friend Mondo , who is quite the good photographer by the way, was out shooting photos and came across a herd of wild horses. I think he was out near one of the reservations. He got down in the bushes and got some really goood photos and I asked him if I could paint one and he said yes! I am also painting one of his sunsets. Anyway, these horses are on the move, walking across the mesa. Painting horses is really not one of my areas of expertise, so be nice!

I love the perspective on this piece - you get a nice feel for the volume of the mountains and the vastness of the landscape. This is the painting that I still have to repair but I didn't want to present it out of order. They sky has to be totally sanded and repainted due to an error on my part. But you have some idea of subject and size.

I'm using my digital, and they say you should take them outside but it's COLD, so you're just going to have to come to Artfest and see them in person. They are much more vibrant and the color is more saturated. This painting is similar to a smaller painting called "Hidden Waters" that I painted as a daily a while back. It's from the village of Jemez.

A sunset of my own creation. I love the turquoise sky and you don't often see it combined with oranges, magentas, and purples. Combine that with the greens in the landscape and you've pretty much got the color wheel. There's even an inkling of yellow in the clouds.

I have passed a version of this view many times on the way to Santa Fe or Taos. These are little vistas of hills, trees, and sky on the east side of the road on the way. You could photograph it every day for a year and it would always looks different. And equally beautiful.

One of our plein air excursions last year was the old Turquoise Trail - actually the backroads between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It's really quaint and beautiful back there. You have the towns of Golden, Madrid, and Cerrillos, Galisteo, and probably another small one or two. Very cool. This is a path I came across near Galisteo.

My family is going to Taos for the annual hike pretty soon and they will be on the top of this mountain. I, myself will be painting, getting ready for the Weems show. Maybe I will paint this mountain again. These trees look like they are on fire and I love the spot of pink on the in the middle ground. Also, do you notice thelittle strands of acequia water flowing through the painting? Makes me want to go on a photo shooting spree in Taos. NOW!

I actually saw this beautiful sunset near my home. There's a large open spece right by the river here, complete with walking, jogging, and biking trails. Of course, in the photo, there were people and the bridge I was on, so I had to do a little creative editing!

I painted one of these for the 150 CHALLENGE and several people wanted to purchase it. So, I was working on a commission and decided to paint one for Artfest too. And I think it will be the image on my postcard! It is a scene that s typical of New Mexico; soft adobe, hollyhocks, lots of colorful native and non-native flowers, mountains in the background, and a lovely field for scenic viewing. Reminds me of Taos and I want to be there!

This is not actually a new painting. I was going to keep it for myself. I love the soft fiery look in the sky and the darkness in the left hand corner. I have decided to part with it. I do this sometimes - I paint something I think I can't live without, so I tuck it away. Then I keep painting and after a while realize that it wasn't meant to be mine. So here's to a new home for this little sunset.

Now, these grapes are very familiar because they came out of my own backyard! We used to have a tree next to our grapevines and the grapes grew across and started their own living arbor across the tree. I took some nice photos a few years ago. Then, the tree died and toppled over. I still have the grapes but they need a new arbor to climb on.

Yay, I have hit the #40 mark! This is a beautiful windblown sunflower. I tried to keep it loose to give the feeling of blowing in the wind. I especially like all of the undertones and oranges around the inside and outside of the flower.

Hummingbirds make me happy. I have eight feeders at my house and I was so sad this year. My neighbor keeps bees and they decided to raid all of the feeders. Every day. There were black swarms of bees at every feeder. We would wait until night, take them down, put them back up in the afternoon and within ten minutes, the bees would gather. The poor hummers didn't know what to do. So we just took them down for good. I am imagining that this little hummingbird doesn't have to worry about feeders because he has a little hidden spot with plent of lavender!

I always try to paint at least one trio of pears for each show. These are a little different, they remind me of glassine ornaments. They are actually from a photo I took of three pears harvested from the pear tree in my yard.

When I first started painting, I used a dark background quite a bit. I love the night sky and I incorporated it into a lot of paintings. Most of these were created in my imagination. As I've turned a little more toward more realistic images; some from photographs, some from plein air painting, the dark sky has faded out somewhat. But I still love it. The first of many Canyon Women.

Mmm, three colorful poppies floating in a turquoise blue background. Reminds me of the sea. Truthfully, the backgrounds are much more interesting for me to paint than the flowers.

My favorite mass of wild flowers - these are poppies. Can you see the blues and one spot of fuschia near the center? What fun I have working with these lines! Also, the little wisps of green at the top of the canvas, my favorite.

As you can tell, I've been working on 8x8" canvases quite a bit. The reason - they are a special order, no one here carried them locally so I order them in bulk. I'm using them now, they are such a joy to paint. I love the zen of a square and this painting reminds me so much of fall. A large one is on its way!

I've only been to Algodones twice and both times it was for a wedding. BUT, we pass this scene every time we come home from Taos or Santa Fe and it's always happens to be about the time for a perfect sunset. I admit, I didn't take this photo. But I love the serene feeling of the scene. And the sunet is pretty special too.

"PLACITAS QUIET"

You know, Placitas is so beautiful. The more I go there, the more I appreciate the village and the landscape. This scene is off of the Loop Road, a long winding loop that is perfect for plein air painting. Sometimes the scenery looks like it's all one shade or color - maybe everything looks green or brown. But it's not. You have to really stop and SEE, there are hidden colors everywhere. I imagined shades of plum or fuschia in tehe foreground against the backdrop of low-growing pinon trees, Love Placitas!

I don't even see the cactus flowers so much in this painting - to me, it's all about the beautiful background. Can you see where the light is coming from? Can you see the red toned ground behind the darkness in the upper right-hand corner? I wish all of my backgrounds could make me this happy! Of course, I do like the prickly pear cactus flowers. I came upon them on a day trip to Jemez with some friends.

"SWEET CEMETERY, PLACITAS"

I snapped a photo of this little cemetery in Placitas on a paint-out with the Plein Air Painters of NM some time ago. I imagine this to be a family plot or at least some of the original founders of Placitas. It's a nice peaceful little place, fullof solitude and reverence.

My wild sunflower maze! This was so fun to paint, just a mass of sunflowers. I titled it "DIRECTIONS" because I kept flipping it around while I was working on the lines and forgetting which way it was supposed to face! I can turn it in any direction and it works. The size is nice too, it would look good on a small vertical wall or over a table.

The first time I painted a piece like this, it was a 30"x30". I like to revisit subjects from time to time and this one turned out nicer than the first.
